The weather is getting colder but at Little Oaks that hasn't stopped us from exploring the great outdoors. The children have enjoyed observing their surroundings as they have changed throughout the autumn season. We have seen lots of imaginative role play taking place in the willow huts and some tasty muddy creations being cooked up in the mud kitchen.

We have had a fantastic week taking part in Kindness and Respect week. The children started the week wearing red. They also made a collage heart to display stickers of kind behaviour we have seen throughout this week. On Wednesday the children decorated cakes and biscuits for the cake sale. They also enjoyed participating in a Kindness and Respect march with the whole school where they waved there Kindness flags they had made and joined others to #chooserespect. On Thursday the children wore odds socks to Little Oaks to celebrate being unique! We have wrapped up a fun filled week, full of kind gestures and fantastic friendships with a dress up day for Children In Need.
At Little Oaks we enjoyed looking at Diwali- a Hindu festival of light. The children enjoyed filling Rangoli patterns around the classroom, creating firework pictures and taking part in some Indian dancing. These are some of the things people do to celebrate this festival.
After watching a short video and looking at poppy field pictures the children created their own poppy fields. They used a cardboard tube wrapped in wool to make the stems of the flowers and they printed with apples to make the poppy heads. We have discussed how poppies are used as a symbol for remembrance day- a time to remember brave people, who made where we live a safe place today.
The children took part in a phonics game- The Pied Piper. The children followed an adult when they heard an instrument played. We moved around the setting in a variety of ways- walking, creeping, hopping, running. We listened to the speed of the beat and moved at different speeds.
This term our class topic is Out Of This World. We have begun to look at the story 'You Choose- In Space.' The children have really enjoyed thinking about what they would do in space and how it would look. Little Oaks have created their own night sky pictures, aliens from play dough and enjoyed exploring alien slime.
